ZOOM has developed a Rest Area program that cross-leverages Wi-Fi and other communication technologies to improve traveler information and services to the DOT and other government agencies. The Next Generation Rest Area is also heavily focused on advancing State Tourism and economic development with advanced Location-Based-Services. 40" Interactive Touch Screen Community Information Center
The main purpose of these platforms is to gather and display traveler information in various ways. Each rest area is equipped with a ZOOM-installed back-haul connectivity solution of some type. In addition, a typical implementation may include various types of traveler-interaction mechanisms including:
Overhead Monitor to display safety related traveler information (Traffic, Weather, Alerts, etc.).
Interactive Wall-Mounted Touch-Screen Monitors or Kiosks designed to give more specific information when requested by users about traffic, weather, tourism and exit services.
WiFi Splash Page loads when a user first connects via their laptop or other WiFi-enabled device. Offers Travel Information and much more.
Low-Power AM Radio Transmission for continuous transmission of LOCALIZED travel alerts and information.
DSRC Communication for 2-way transmission of information into the vehicle (currently implementing pilot).
WiFi- Connected Camera for Automated Truck Parking Availability Calculations, Security and Data Collection.
